The Cedar Rapids Down-payment Assistance Program will accept applications soon.

There are income limits and other qualifying criteria, but eligible buyers

will receive $1,000 - $5,000 in forgivable down-payment assistance.

Here are the recommended steps per the First Time Home Buyer Program website:

1) Applicants must complete a home-buyer education course (through Horizons for example)
     The class can be taken now to have it completed, and is $99.00

2) Find a mortgage lender and get pre-qualified.

3) Fill out the First Time Home Buyer Application (will be available online)

4) Submit the Application along with all required documents.

Important points to remember: 

*  The property MUST be in Cedar Rapids city limits

* Purchase Price maximum is $135,000

* The property can be a house OR condo

* The property will be inspected and must meet health and safety requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity for 1st time buyers who have been dreaming of a home but have had difficulty saving up for the down-payment.
